The exact origins of blackjack are unknown but we know that it comes from the French game vingt-et-un. The goal of blackjack is to obtain 21 or a score as closer to this number as possible. This is the reason why the blackjack game is also known as twenty-one.
Generally, blackjack is played with 6 decks of 52 cards each, even though this varies depending on the casino. In blackjack the Ace can have two different values: 1 or 11, which will depend on what is most convenient for the player. The value of each blackjack card is their face value, except for court cards that are always worth 10.
Players have to place their bets in the center of the table and the croupier will deal two cards face-up for each player in the blackjack hand and two cards to himself, one face-up and the other one face-down. In some casinos players can take part in several hands at the same time so as to increase their chances of winning.
In blackjack, the K, Q, J and the 10 are worth 10, aces are worth 1 or 11 and the rest of the cards, from 2 to 9, keep their face value. The hand after which the game is named is called blackjack and is obtained combining an Ace with a 10 (face value or court card) and this hand has a value of 21. Play blackjack and have fun.
