A new member would join the cast of the successful American series “Desperate Housewives”. We are talking about the actress Laura Dern, who was nominated for an Oscar in 1991 for “Rambling Rose” and has a very wide career in movies. Some of the movies she has been in are “Jurassic Park III”, “I am Sam”, “A perfect world” and “Wild at heart”.

The series is about the story of five women who live in a neighborhood that appears to be perfect: Wisterial Lane. There, the past and secrets of all these women is hidden: Susan is a divorced woman who had to go through a husband leaving her for another woman, Lynette had to quit her successful professional career to look after her four kids, Bree is a very perfectionist housewife, Gabrielle is an unfaithful wife and Edie is a man-eater.

The story starts with the suicide of another friend, Mary Alice, who is in charge of telling the stories of the housewives to the TV audience. The new neighbor, played by Dern, will appear during the present season in a couple of chapters, but will return to the series in the American fall. This desperate housewife will be a single mom who worked as a chorus girl in Altlantic City and dreams of becoming a Blackjack croupier and working in a great casino.

The black humor and the combinations of drama and comedy makes out the smart sarcastic way in which the life of these women is told. The series has turned into a huge success and over 22 million watchers confirm that it is one of the most watched TV series in the United States.
