Another Oklahoma tribal casino plans to offer blackjack card games Tuesday. The Quapaw Casino in Miami reached an agreement with the federal government allowing the games.

The card games are allowed under compacts between tribes and the state after Oklahoma voters approved the expansion of Indian gaming last November.

Just recently, the Cherokee Nation started dealing black jack at its casino in Catoosa...

Blackjack Odds

Whether you are playing casino blackjack or online blackjack you should be aware of the situations in which the odds are in your favor or the house’s favor.

Right from the beginning, blackjack odds favor the house by about 8% . This is mainly derived from the rule that the player must draw first and if the player busts the house wins, no matter if the house busts or not. The house has this advantage because about 8% of the time both the player and house will bust.

If you are able to effectively use basic strategy and know when and how much to bet you can reduce this house advantage to almost 0.5%...

Card Counting

17.jpg

Casinos are always on the look out for anything out of the ordinary. Casinos know how to spot card counters and use their highly sophisticated security cameras, known as “the eye in the sky” to monitor every inch of the casino. They track their playing and betting habits and will ask you to leave if they suspect you of counting cards. There are cameras in the lounge watching you writing a note, a camera watching you cash in your chips and even cameras in the parking lot watching you leave.

The basic strategy of card counting employs assigning a value to certain types of cards. This allows the player to determine when the cards remaining are favorable to the player or the dealer. Card counting alone will not help you win, but help you determine when to bet high or bet low. The key to beating blackjack is to combine card counting with basic strategy and reduce the house advantage as much as possible.

Too much of a gamble

Gov. John Lynch says he is willing to consider expanded gambling as a way to raise new money for the state, which is under pressure to confront spending challenges, particularly for education and social services.
But news that two upper-tier officials of the Lakes Region Greyhound Park in Belmont have been indicted on federal charges is bound to give any effort to open the doors to more forms of gambling at the state´s four racetracks a chilly reception in the corridors of Statehouse.

New Wrinkles on Blackjack

Per dollar wagered, the casinos make more money on Caribbean Stud and other relatively new games, but many more dollars are wagered on blackjack.
What´s a profit-hungry operator to do? Sometimes the choice is to offer something that looks like blackjack, feels like blackjack, but isn´t quite as beatable as blackjack.
At the GGE at the Las Vegas Convention Center, I took a close look at three of the latest wrinkles. All seem like fun, but be careful. All three also increase the house edge above and beyond that on the basic game.

The computer comes equipped with 4 buttons which enpower you, the gambler, to let the computer know which cards have been played. In turn, the computer will let you know the best play to make based on the input you have provided the computer.

Winning Hands in Blackjack

When you play blackjack, your final hand can only be one of these possibilities--a blackjack, 21, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16 or less, or you could bust. When you bust, you know you automatically lose and when you get a blackjack hand, at worst you'll tie and at best you'll get paid a bonus of 1.5 times your bet. But what are your chances of wining when you stand on your 17s through 21s? You would hope they are good, but that's not always the case.

Let's take the example of standing on 17 in a six-deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17. Most players are happy to have a 17 and thankfully stand. However, you will lose more money than win when the dealer shows any face card but a 6. You will lose the most money when the dealer shows a 9 and the least when he shows a 4 or 5. It's only when the dealer has a 6 showing that you stand a fighting chance of winning some money in the long run.
